Hey gys, I just got a batch of eggs and they hatched today. Got 11 out of them but 7 died before tonight and im feeding them live rotifers bought from a store. I already move them over and having a hardtime keeping them alive. I have an airstone and temp on 78, thinking about ordering real live rotifers from aqua farm and overnight them to save them>

I just set up a fry tank about 2 weeks, can I leave the eggs into the new tank now? My new tank has some sand from the main tank, is it OK for the fry? Thanks!

Hi - I am so glad there is someone out here to help... we just realized our clownfish laid eggs..they are in a 55 gal tank with 2 bluehippos, a yellow tang, a coral beauty, a cardinal , a spotted wrasse, an anemone, a hawknosed fish, and a cleaner shrimp. Do they even stand a chance? After reading all you have here, we are NOT ready to save this batch, but would like to prepare for the next batch. QUESTIONS: When do we start the rotifer culture? How do we get the fry out of the tank? How do we know when to switch to brine shrimp? When can they eat frozen food? Would appreciate ANY think you can tell us...we have had them for over a year, but this is the first time they have laid eggs, (we think). Why would that be? THanks - Deb and Kev

This is great. I'm on my first attempt now. is it possible to remove my breeding clowns into a seperate tank? Will they continue to lay eggs or will it just mess everything up? They have been laying 100s of eggs every couple weeks for 6months.there in a reef now and are just a pain because they are so territorial. Thanks and great post

The fry tank should be lit constantly so that the fry can constantly be looking for and eating rotifers.

A 5 gallon aquarium can be used for the fry tank and would work fine. You will need to closely watch the water quality and change the water often. Painting the outside of the tank would help to stop the fry from seeing their reflection. What ends up happening is the baby clownfish see their reflections in the glass and constantly bump into the glass and actually end up hurting themselves. You could also cover the outside of the glass with dark paper or a garbage bag.

You can try to let them hatch and live in the main tank but I think you are going to have problems. The fry will have a hard time finding food in a large volume of water. Also they could get eaten. I think that the net nursery could damage the fry as they would constantly be bumping into it. The fry are very delicate when they are first born.

Hi Scott- Thank you so much for your information. I have clownfish that are currently laying eggs. I wasn't prepared as it didn't know this was common. However I do not have another tank to put them in. I have a nursury net - But am concerned that the fry will struggle with the stregth of the water flow. Could they live in the original tank with a net/nursery tank that? Also how long do you need to seperate the clowns from the fry for? Can you re-introduce the babies into the tank?
Thanks Sarah
