Hi all, I’m an aquarist and would love to get started in breeding clowns. Fist of all, Id like to say what a wonderful website you have here, Its truly a wealth of information. I’m trying to decide what I need, as there is no single point on the website for this.

This is what I have so far.

Parent Tank
My Main Tank – 55 Gal
Lights, Two Filters and Heater
Also has other fish in it, but no clowns
Live rock and Anemones
Mated pair of clown fish
Hatch/Fry Tank
5 Gal
Heater, Air bubbler (No Filter) Light
Bare Bottom
Rotifer Culture
5 Gal Bucket
Air Bubbler
Live culture and food
Brine Shrimp Hatchery
Two Liter inverted bottle
Lamp and air bubbler

A couple questions I have, (1)Do the brine shrimp need to be decapsulated and hatched or just hatched? (2)Does the fry tank have to be blacked out or is this optional? Would a Turkey baster work to suck up the eggs to transfer to the fry tank? (4) Would I be able to use the same air pumps for the three bubblers with line splitters?

Thanks for all the help, and Im looking forward to become a Clownfish breeder.

1.) the brine just need to be hatched and alive. Use the turkey baster and allow the egg capsules to float to the top of it and then squirt the live brine into the tank leaving the egg shells behind.
2.) It definitly helps to have the fry tank blacked out. Otherwise they constantly see their reflection and are more interested in it than catching food. The also injure themselves running into the glass over and over.
3.) A turkey baster might work to transfer the eggs but it might be a little rough on the delicate fry I would scoop them or siphon them.
4.) line splitters work well for what you will need, just make sure you get an adjustment valve to adjust the amount of air flow
