Nano orca 80 litrs 20 gallon Info

Postby plecostrum » Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:53 am

I am a beginner so if i put the wrong thing please let me know? or anything i could change, any constructive critisism welcome....

I have a 18mth old nano orca tank. It has a overflow to the rear chamber where i keep a bag of nitrate remover then live rock, a small uv filter, a prism vry big skimmer as the nano120 just wouldnt fit, then it all pumps back to the main tank.
My display tank has a pump that sends a flow to the rear of the rocks, then 2 nano koralias facing the rocks. I have a good flow inside sometimes i get a little whirlpool up one corner but everything seems to be fine.

My corals are very simple sps i think :- polpys sun, brown, zoas, xenia, one thats brown with creamy tips (frogspawn maybe), mushrooms, star polps (i think green with dot in middle) , a white thing that is puffing up with little tenticles coming out (leather coral) this was lost for a few months down the back of the rocks but is slowly regaining some colour it should be brown/pink. few sponges. cheato and red algae

My lighting: I wasnt very impressed with the lighting as the water level had to be high and the light box sat in the water not good eventually it rusted the switch on the top so i have had to mod the lid. thought it a good time to add another tube too. So i have 2 compact tubes the ones part blue part white. its on a double starter. 8" and 14" approx. plus 3 blue spotlights.

My stock:- bta anemone, 2 clowns ocellaris, 1 humbug damsel, 2 hitchhiker crabs, 1 micro algae hermit, 6 different types of snails, few brittle starfish tiny ones,

I would like to add a yellow rock goby, and a few sexy shrimp or just one cleaner. What do you think is that too much?

Well i have had so many crashes in the first 8 mths all lessons learned. too much feeding was the first one, electric went out and my temp shot down killing my fish days later, brought a white puffed up leather thing that as i know now! was already dying and poluted my tank : bad ebayer, had a crash and lost all my inverts, brought a yellow tailed damsel which killed 2 clowns and a domino damsel such a bully they all hid soon as they come out he chased them off 1 month he wiped them out- water tested perfect just bad fish. my named him jack the ripper.

So the tank had been running since dec with nothing but rock and polps and the humbug, so though i should try again. So i have brought a pair of clowns and a bta. Its early days have had the clowns 2 weeks and then last saturday i introduced the bta. IT hid under a rock so i have moved the rock higher but he still is part hiding. after 3 days of no interest the smallest eventually went head first and just lay there in it lol i thought at first he was being eaten lol but no he danced around a bit then come out. The following day the larger one has decided to have a go. They cant get in together which is fun to watch one in one out. The nem is still stuck in a hole so isnt big enough for both but if he was to come out they would be fine. I have a flat rock above hoping that they may lay eggs on it. I am not too hopeful but you never know... I have brought 2 small clown both times before but they died so this time i decided i would buy the biggest in the shop lol one tank had a large clown and a small so thought i would take the risk £16.95 each and i am sure i may have a male and female due to the size difference. I did feed the bta a cooked mussel the other day not sure if it should of been a raw one he grabbed it not sure if he ate it tho but i cant see it so i am expecting that may cause a slight disaster. hopefully my crab will finish it off.
I will try to get raw stuff for it next time. Seen some people feeding goldfish alive im not impressed! i can get them sprats cheap so thought they might be good and you get like 6 for 60p they are around 4" long so cut up should last a while.
Is it normal for them not to continously host? they seem to have a go then swim around for a while then go back. They dont defend it or run to it when i put my hand in but i guess its early days. When in the shop for my bta the only clowns hosting were maroons and the rose tip i wanted when he touched it to turn it around the little clown went mad biting him lol. they were all single not pairs.

I have uploaded to utube a video if you would like to take a look link below:
