I have had a black and white saddleback and a maroon and gold in the same tank now for about 4-5 years. I arrived home after work last friday and notice a large area of what appeared to eggs just behind a large anemone on the back panel of the tank. is it possible that they are breeding, or is one of the two just laying eggs? thank you .

A Black Saddleback Clown (A. polymnus) is unmistakable. The maroon and gold one may be one of several clown species. The two Saddleback variants are both A. polymnus. Since you have eggs, it is most definitely a Saddleback. Fish do not, generally, cross-breed easily, nor do they lay eggs for the sake of laying. It is very rare. My bet is you have one of each kind of Saddleback.

Good luck with the spawn. Sometimes you get very interesting patterns and colors in a case like this, and once in awhile you get colors you never expect.
