Just picked up two False percula's in hope to breed them

Postby mustangk » Fri Dec 25, 2009 2:40 am

As the title says I just picked up to False Percula Clownfish. I have a few questions and was hoping to pick the brains of you guys. Right now they are pretty small just about inch or so.

1. One of them the smaller one's white tail stripe is not a full band it end's about half way down. Is that normal?

2. How long does it take for them to pair up?

3. The only other fish in the tank is a Fire fish who is very peaceful will that affect the them at all?

1. I'm not sure about the stripe, from what I read I think it's normal.
2. The pairing unfortunatly will depend on them. Being on the small side I"m guessing they're in the juvinial stage and you might have to give them a little time to grow into the adult stage. I'm not sure at what age they start to spawn, I"ll try to read up on it later.
3. I think the fire fish would be a perfect, for some reason I never had much luck with them. The clowns need peaceful tank mates and a regular light schedule. Do you have your lights on a timer?

Good luck...

I have a False Percula that I've had about 5 years. I bought another one last January (2009) that was about 1 1/2 long. There is a very big difference in their sizes. I wasn't trying to breed them but guess what, I had babies last night. Very cool, it all happened just like this web site said it would. Even down to them getting sucked up into the filtration system. Lost every one of them. So for me it took a year, maybe sooner if they had eggs and I never noticed.
