How old must the pair be?

Postby sisterkk » Thu May 21, 2009 1:01 pm

I recently purchased a mate for my female picasso. They seem to getting along great from the very beginning. How old do clownfish have to be before they start breeding?

Thanks!

It varies. Mine took 3 years. Make them as happy as possible with food including brine. An anenome helps but not necessary. Keep any bullies out of the tank. I'd love to buy a picasso if they do spawn. Where did you get your picasso from?

Typically 12-18 mos of age is the minnimum required for spawning as a female. Males can spawn as young as 5-6 mos.

However, a more influential factor than age is size. A female Ocellaris or Perc can normally start spawning at around 2.75".
