HELP AMMONIA

Postby steve » Tue Jun 01, 2010 7:32 pm

Hi all i have a pair of maroon clowns i took the plant pot out with the eggs and placed it in a 3 gall black bucket. Thay are 2 days old now and there is about 35 out of about 100 most died after hatching, What i would like to know is how can i keep the amonia down as it keeps creeping up today it was 0.50 so i trickled fresh water in and got it close to zero but soon as i add a bit of phyto to keep the rottifers alive it goes streight up again. Should i not feed the rottifers in the fry tub :?

What kind of phytoplankton are you using? Sounds like it is the problem...Read on the site about growing your own phytoplankton. It is super easy and much cheaper than buying bottles of plankton. I also would try to get your fry in a larger aquarium or tank. 3 gallons gets dirty quickly as you have noticed.
