Dead rotifers?

Postby chief911 » Sun May 23, 2010 3:11 pm

Hi all,

Been doing a ton of reading, and finally am taking the plunge.

Ordered rotifers from Reed. But after three days, everything appears to be dead. Water is still light green, but nothing seems to be swimming around.

How do you tell if the rotifers are dead?

I think my mistake was not testing the salinity of the bucket I put the rotifers into. I didnt harvest or do any water changes for the first three days, was that OK?

How often do you feed them?

Hi i am new to breeding clowns but i have had my rottifers going now for about 3 months with no problems. You really need to know roughfly your sg. Did you have an air stone or some sort of air supply for the rottifers. Best way to see if there are live rotts is to scoop a glass full out let it settle and then hold it up to the light. You should see what looks like specs of dust moveing in the water. Your rottifers might have crashed if you put too much phyto in there. Allso what temp is the water as i have noticed when its cold thay really slow down and dont eat as much. So thats may be why your water is still green ;)
