could be...sorry best I got. It could be the start of preparing the nest. Mine started out slow, moving a small bit of sand, fanning with their tail. then a little bit more each day, week. (I had about a 3" deep sand bed.) Soon they were down to the bare glass on the bottom. Before I knew it they had the whole width of the tank, (4 feet) across the back behind the rock down to bare glass. I soon had a 6" deep sand bed across the front and bare glass in the back. They created their nest in the center of tank in the depressed area of sand.
It's a good sign that it's next to their host.
However I did have a damsel that like to move sand around for fun(?), looking for food (?), I ended up giving it to the local pet store.
